Built by American Freemasons to honour the memory of George Washington who was, obviously, a Freemason. We toured the first and ground floors only but there are nine in total including an observation deck. However we didn't need to go up right to the top as the temple is on top of a big hill and the views of Alexandria were fantastic. The heat was blistering and it was quite humid so after we returned the car we retired to the air con of April's.
